The Southgate Centre is thinking about expanding as the wait list grows for some of their programs.
WOODSTOCK - Southgate Centre in Woodstock is looking to expand their building.
Executive Director Chris Cunningham says membership is on the rise.
"Numbers are growing of seniors and it's incredible! We've got more seniors ages 65 and over than we do kids in grade school right now and within the next two decades that number is going to double so we need to keep on top of it."
Numerous programs are being offered at the seniors' centre ranging from a sign language course to a yoga class. The programs are currently being offered all day long and some seniors are being put on waiting lists due to the limited space.
Southgate is looking into the possibility of partnering up with the city for the expansion. Director of Parks and Rec Brian Connors says this will be discussed at upcoming council meetings.
"There will certainly be more talk about it and there will be business planning. There will be a number of ways to look at this before it goes forward but it's a good way to kick off the conversation."
If the city decides to help Southgate with this expansion, the seniors' centre would also host extracurricular activities for all ages on evenings and weekends.
