Southgate Centre in Woodstock is hosting a dinner fundraiser on Saturday February 27th in order to raise money to help a Syrian Refugee family move to the area.
WOODSTOCK - There will be a big dinner at Southgate Centre Saturday February 27th, which will raise money to help a Syrian refugee family settle in Oxford County. Ashley Farrar, a co-sponsor from the Woodstock Community Sponsorship Group tells Heart FM what the evening will entail.
"It's a prime rib dinner that's $25. We're following up with a dance performance by the Al-Asala Dabke Group, which does Arab folk dance. They're excellent and we're really excited to have them there. There will also be a DJ, dancing, silent auction and cash bar so it is going to be a great night."
The doors and the bar will open at 5:30pm. Dinner will be served at 7pm with the dance performance at 8:30pm. The night will also feature a Boston Pizza buffet at 11:30pm.
Farrar says any excess money raised will help other refugee families.
"Anything above and beyond that our group raises for our family we'll be sharing with other sponsorship groups as well. So it's really going to their immediate needs."
Farrar adds that the family could be moving to the county any day now.
"We are currently on the waiting list to be matched. So until we hear from our sponsorship holder, which is MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) in Kitchener we won't know when but it could be anytime."
You can book tickets ahead of time by calling Southgate Centre at 519-539-9817 or you can purchase them at the door.
