Construction for the South Gate Centre expansion will begin in the next two months.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council has signed off on the construction tender for the South Gate Centre expansion project.
This means shovels will hit the ground in the next 60 days and it should take about 56 weeks to complete.
The construction contract was awarded to Elgin Contracting and Restoration Limited and it came in under budget with a price tag of $7,178,890 including HST. The expansion originally had a budget of $9 million, with the City approving $7.8 million in the 2023 Capital Budget and South Gate Centre providing $1.2 million.
The South Gate Centre has been preparing for this expansion for several years now. It's going to double the size of the facility and offer new lounge areas, atrium areas, programming space, and a large event space that will be able to hold up to 400 people.
There's also going to be a new entrance off Victoria Street South, which will take you to a new main entrance and an improved parking lot.
