Woodstock City Council has backed stage two of the South Gate Centre expansion project.
WOODSTOCK - The South Gate Centre expansion is back on course.
Woodstock City Council approved $10,000 for the project last night.
Executive Director Chris Cunningham says this means they can move forward into stage two.
"We will be getting into conversations with the architect and come together with senior staff here with the city to make some really good solid decisions that will work for both sides and the community at large."
The project will include more space and additional multi-purpose rooms.
With a growing senior population, Cunningham says the expansion is needed now more than ever.
"In Woodstock alone those numbers are increasing. In the next five years we'll see an increase of 40 percent and in the next 20 years it will be up to 100 percent of what we have now."
The project was put on the back burner earlier this summer, after the city took control of Cowan Park. The South Gate expansion was going to include more recreational gym space for the city, but that is no longer needed thanks to the Cowan Park takeover.
