Fire up the snow blowers and get those shovels ready. A snowfall warning has been issued for a large portion of southern Ontario, including Oxford County. Environment Canada says the combination of an Alberta clipper and Texas low is expected to dump any where from 15 to 25 cms of snow in the region by Friday night. Light snow is expected to begin this morning or afternoon but that will all change later tonight. Latest indications suggest the snowfall will intensify in the evening hours with the heaviest bands moving into the region Friday morning just in time for rush hour along the 401 corridor from London into Toronto and the Golden Horseshoe. Brisk northeasterly winds will also cause local blowing snow in many areas tonight and tomorrow. Motorists are being advised that travelling conditions will deteriorate and become hazardous in the snow and blowing snow tonight and Friday. There's a good change the morning commute on Friday will be significantly impacted with heavy snow and blowing snow. Just last Friday, snow squalls caused multiple problems on the 401 in the Woodstock area including a 50 car pile-up. Keep it tuned to Heart FM as we will keep you up to date on the local road conditions and will pass along any potential school bus delays or cancellations.
