Smile Cookie Campaign a Huge Success in Norwich This Year

Today the Norwich Tim Horton's location presented the Salvation Army Community and Family Services Norwich with a cheque for $6,595.

NORWICH - They sure do love their Smile cookies in the Village of Norwich.

The small community ate over 6,000 of them during the Smile cookie campaign this year to support the local Salvation Army.

Owner of the Norwich Tim's Randy Salverda says they used to donate the Smile Cookie money to the Children's Hospital in London. 

"We decided we needed to get more for our local communities and do more for our local areas, so that is how this came about. I think once customers knew where this money was going, it made a big difference on them and the amount they were buying and I think that is what made it a really big number this year." 

Today the Tim Horton's location presented the Norwich Salvation Army with a cheque for $6,595. This is the second highest total ever for the Norwich Tim's location. 

Community Ministries Coordinator with The Salvation Army Community and Family Services Norwich April Greenwood says this money will really help out with the holiday season.

"We are getting ready for Christmas Hampers, whatever we don't use will go into family services. So we have a SAW program for medical wellness, we also do utility bank, a rent bank, so we have lot's of different ways we help people out."

Greenwood says more and more people are relying the food bank this year and they have already had several people sign up for the Christmas Hamper program.
