Zorra Township is offering a free skate almost every day during the Christmas break this year.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Kids in Zorra Township can hit the ice during their winter break this Christmas.
They will be having plenty of free skates over the next couple of weeks, thanks to donations from a couple of local businesses. Mayor Marcus Ryan says the free skates are always popular.
"What I really like about it when I go, is it's not just the kids, it's kids, it's their parents, it's aunts and uncles, so it is a real mix, it's a visiting time, it's a social time and it just happens to take place with skates on the ice."
Ryan says the recreation staff deserve a lot of credit for making this happen.
"Recreation staff have really grabbed the bull by the horns and have tried to find as many free ice times as possible over the holidays and they have aggressively gone out and try to find community groups and businesses to sponsor those ice times and make them available."
The free skates are happening on December 23,27,28,29,30 and again on January 2,3,4,6,27 from 2-3 pm at the Embro Zorra Community Centre and the Thamesford District Recreation Centre. Tim Hortons is sponsoring the majority of the free skates, however the Finally Home Century 21 team, Realtors Care of Woodstock Ingersoll and District Board and the Mary Ellen Garner Insurance and Heartland Farm Mutual are also sponsoring one skate each.
