A new contract for wind turbines is blowing some new jobs in Tillsonburg's direction. 150 of them in-fact. An order has been made for Siemens to provide 124 wind turbines for the South Kent wind project. That will boost production at the Tillsonburg plant that makes the blades for those turbines, and double the workforce at the plant from 150 to 300 jobs. Tillsonburg Mayor John Lessif says it's a huge boost to the town's economy. "Every job is an important job, let me tell ya. In today's economy, you know, the town of Tillsonburg is still slowly recovering from the hit that happened a few years ago. But we're making progress and Siemens is a great corporate entity in our community." Lessif says all those new jobs will create ripple effects throughout the town. "Absolutely, and an example of that, is in their hiring process they have prospective employees take a mobility test through a physiotherapy clinic, which is happening here in town. That's just one spinoff, there are others..." Hiring will take place over the next several weeks, and the first blades will come out of the plant this summer. The South Kent wind project will be erected by spring 2014.
