Up to 60 pharmacies will start testing for COVID-19 in the province today, however none will be in Southwestern Ontario.
SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO - COVID-19 testing starts today at select pharmacies across the province, however none of those pharmacies are in Southwestern Ontario.
Premier Doug Ford was asked about that yesterday and about the long lineups at local assessment centres.
"We will have pharmacies in that area to support the people of Southwestern Ontario, I just want to see how these go. The 60 that we have, we had to put them in the hot spots but we are there to support the people of Southwestern Ontario. I spoke with one the local mayors yesterday and mentioned that to him, that we will be there to support them as quickly as we can."
Ford says they want to focus on the people who need the testing.
"It goes back to the advice we got from the Chief Medical Officers and the CEO's of the hospitals, they are all telling me the exact same story. As I said Doug, there are people who want the test and are getting the test and I understand that and then there are people who need the test. What we want to do is reroute the folks who want a test but don't need one to the pharmacies and help ease the load on the public system."
Ford says he will have an announcement in the next couple of days for the folks of Southwestern Ontario with pharmacies taking on testing in those areas.
