Perth County OPP just held another traffic campaign and they had some high numbers, but not in relation to the original focus.
PERTH COUNTY - Perth County OPP were busy over the Long Weekend with their seat-belt blitz campaign.
Constable Laura Lee Brown says their was multiple other charges, not just what they had set out for.
"The primary focus was on seatbelts. However during that time front line officers were observant and ended up laying charges in several different areas of the Highway Traffic Act."
Brown adds that out of the 335 charges, only 21 were seatbelt related.
"It's unfortunate because it shows us clearly that the message is still not getting across and those charges range from speeding, to stunt driving, cell phone use as well as seatbelt."
Police also caught 5 drivers during the campaign who were charged with stunt driving, a licence suspension and had their vehicles impounded.
Detachment Commander and Inspector, Rob Scott shares his opinion on the number of charges laid.
"These numbers demonstrate an outstanding commitment to road safety. The dangers of irresponsible driving, whether by impairment, speeding or distractions are well-known. Our officers remain dedicated to promoting road safety and reducing motor vehicle collisions through education and enforcement initiatives."
If anyone witnesses or suspects dangerous driving please pull over and dial 9-1-1. For non-emergencies please call police at 1-888-310-1122.
