As students head back to class, drivers need to be extra cautious in school zones. Fines for offences at school crossings are $150 and 3 demerit points. All fines are double in Community Safety Zones. Woodstock's Crossing Guard Supervisor Arlene Fletcher says students also need to follow instructions. "We train the guards to ask the students to wait and not cross the street until the guard gives them the OK. The guard will go out and we ask the students to please not follow them because we're not sure that all of the vehicles will stop. It's easier for one guard to get out of the way than several students," said Fletcher. The crossing guards will be wearing larger reflective vests this year (photo right) and will be carrying stop signs with flashing lights on them. There are seventeen locations with school crossing guards this year. These are the same locations, but the times vary from last year.
