Love may be blind, but the Better Business Bureau says you don't have to be when it comes to Romance Scams
The Better Business Bureau wants you to protect your heart and your wallet this Valentine's Day.
While some people use online dating sites for love, others are using them to scam victims out of their hard earned money. Romance scammers tend to catfish their victims - meaning they will create a fake profile using photos of other people to fool you.
Communications Manager Ashley Casselman tells Heart FM about a big red flag to watch out for.
"They can never meet you in person. Someone who wants to meet you and is a legitimate person online, they're going to be able to meet you in person. They're not going to be constantly travelling or happen to be over seas working in the military or in business."
Scam artists might say they are far away so they need you to help pay for airfare to come see you. They might also ask you to invest in an overseas business venture.
"It does warn other people about this scam that is out there and if you think you are being scammed you can go online to check it out to see if that's what it is as well."
You should also report it to the police.
