Donations are being accepted and volunteers are needed for this year's Santa for Seniors campaign in Oxford County.
OXFORD - Santa for Seniors is back in Oxford County for the holidays.
Organizer Gail Bradfield-Evraire started the program to make sure seniors are not forgotten during the holidays.
"People have the opportunity to go out and shop, purchase whatever gift they wish, and drop it off at one of our drop-off locations in Woodstock or South-West Oxford. Then, we assemble these gifts and we deliver them to the seniors on Christmas day."
Woodstock's location is at Oxford Optometry on Dundas Street, and South-West Oxford's drop-off is at the township office on Dereham Line in Mount Elgin.
If you're not sure what to buy, Bradfield-Evraire suggests something practical, and not an item that will collect dust.
"One thing that I tell people is to remember that these seniors have collected a lifetime of belongings. I really like to focus on warm and fuzzy things."
Bradfield-Evraire got the idea to start a Santa for Seniors in Oxford after she owned a small senior companionship business and discovered that plenty of them are lonely and looking to socialize.
She says the program has seen a lot of donations and volunteers, but they are still looking for some "delivery elves" in Woodstock and Ingersoll.
