Santa Claus Parade Taking Over Tillsonburg Tomorrow

Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive on the final float, waving and greeting children to spread the holiday spirit.

TILLSONBURG - A huge turnout is expected at the Tillsonburg Christmas Parade this year.

The parade starts tomorrow at 2 p.m., and according to one of the organizers Catharine Ryan, there will be more floats than ever, with many local groups and businesses taking part as well as multiple bands, including the Ingersoll Pipe Band.

Despite the number of floats, it's still not too late to join the parade. Ryan explains what you would need to do on the day of the parade.

"Anybody who is still thinking about entering the parade can just show up at the staging area [at Avondale Church] no later than 1 p.m. and they will be fit into a spot."

The route is also longer this year. The parade lines up and starts at Avondale Church, uses Brock Street to get onto Broadway, then they go up Broadway until Glendale Avenue where it ends at Glendale High School.

A longer route and more floats have made the parade longer this year. Ryan estimates it will take just over 45 minutes, but not longer than an hour. 

For donations, the Fire Department is collecting food for the food bank, and the Salvation Army is collecting donations for the Christmas Kettle programs and toys for their Christmas hampers.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will also end the parade on the final float as per tradition, and Ryan says they'll be waving and greeting children to spread the holiday spirit.

"It's going to bring a lot of Christmas cheer to town. I hope everybody makes it out, gets their spot, grabs a hot chocolate, curls up, and just really enjoys a lot of Christmas cheer."
