With Christmas fast approaching The Salvation Army can use your help to ensure everyone has a memorable holiday season.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Salvation Army is need of your support this holiday season.
With only 2 and a half weeks left until Christmas toys and food are being collected to be sent to the less fortunate. Director of Community and Family Services with the Salvation Army, Vanessa Giuliano, explains how everything has gone to this point. "Well it is a slow start, we do have all of our hamper applications in, for all of our children that are requesting gifts they have been handed out to the community. There slow coming in, the deadline is December 10th, which is the same deadline as every year, this year it is in the middle of the week it is not much different to other years so I am not going to worry just yet."
After getting off to a slow start they are hoping the public will come forward and donate what they can, Giuliano spoke to Heart FM about what they are currently lacking. "We're always looking for things for those 13-15 year old males and females, sometimes their gifts can be a little bit more expensive. We do tend to fall down in that department touques and wallets for the guys, nice hats, smart mitts, and scarf sets for the girls." Food donations are also a little lower than normal for this time of year that can greatly help less fortunate families in our community.
Giuliano discusses why it is important to donate to the organization. "There are so many families in our community that just require a little help especially at Christmas. When we talk about the Christmas Kettle Campaign some people say I only have a dollar, that dollar is fabulous thank you very much, or I only have 25 cents that goes a long way. You don't have to be overly extravagant but it is the art of giving, that is what we should do that is what it is all about." Those looking to assist others in the community can drop off items at the Salvation Army Woodstock location or call the Food Bank at (519) 539-6166.
