The sluggish winter in Southwestern Ontario appears to be putting the squeeze on home sales to open 2014.
The price of homes sold in the area is up over this time last year but home sales are moving at a slower pace than last February.
New numbers in this week on February home sales from the Woodstock-Ingersoll and District Real Estate Board put Woodstock area homes at an average sale price of $241,000 for last month. That's a seven per cent increase over 2013. New listings on MLS were little changed however on a year over year basis.
District Real Estate Board President William Cattle says the home sales market had been quite strong right up until the end of 2013. He says March sales data is expected to to confirm the slow start to 2014 has been more of a weather report than anything.
The proof from our tough winter is already relfected in last months housing stats with area home sales tallying 66 units sold in last month's index, a 36 per cent drop when compared to February from the year prior.
