DORCHESTER - Two local politicians are hosting an information session this week for anyone concerned over the current state of rural education.
Zorra Mayor Marcus Ryan and Thames Centre Deputy Mayor Kelly Elliott are hosting the meeting. Many parents have expressed frustration after the Thames Valley District School Board tried to get the Rural Education Task Force draft report removed from council agendas. The TVDSB has since removed all Rural Education Task Force information from its website. You can read all about that online here.
Rural Education Task Force Vice Chair and Zorra Mayor Marcus Ryan says people have been asking what is going on with the TVDSB when it comes to the Rural Education Task Force.
"We have had an outpouring of interest from all across Oxford, Elgin and Middlesex, wanting to understand what is happening. So we thought, let's just sit down with people and let them bombard us with questions, we will answer the best we can and if they are looking for action to take, we will try to help them find ways to be constructive in getting their voice heard at the school board, because it seems the school board does not want to hear their voice."
Thames Centre Deputy Mayor Kelly Elliott says they will start the meeting by providing the latest update.
"We are essentially just going to go over the steps of what has gone on, why it is happening and why it is so important that we do this advocacy, so whether it is writing letters, sending emails or calling school board trustees."
The Rural Education Meeting is happening this Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Blue Line Room inside the Flight Exec Centre in Dorchester.
