CANADA - Rogers is set to buy Shaw Communications in a $26-billion deal including debit.
It's going to pay $40.50 for all issued and outstanding class A and B shares. Class B shares closed at $23.90 on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Friday.
Rogers is planning to invest $2.5-billion towards building 5G networks in Western Canada over the next five years. It's also creating a $1-billion fund in order to provide high-speed internet service to rural, remote and Indigenous communities out west.
The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2022 but it's still subject to other customary closing conditions and approvals from Canadian regulators.
