City of Woodstock getting ready for winter road maintenance
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock has been preparing for what could be a long winter. Maintenance crews have been conducting regular road maintenance to clear the streets of debris to make snow removal easier. City Engineer Harold de Haan said,"We've been working on street sweeping and leaf collection already, certainly makes things easier once snow comes if the roads are clean, we are working on that and will probably work on leaf collection into December."
Snow has yet to arrive and de Haan says the budget has already been reached."We've pretty much spent our winter control budget for the year already, unfortunately its mid-November. I suspect unless it doesn't snow at all, we will end up going overbudget."
The Winter Roads Budget runs on a January - December budget. The snow fall at the beginning of the year caused a major hit to the budget as many large storms happened on the weekend which cost the City more in staffing.
Crews have been busily preparing the necessary supplies for the upcoming winter season."In terms of supplies, make sure we have salt and the sand necessary and beet juice, we put beet juice on the roads beforehand if we expect they are going to freeze," added de Haan.
