City Engineer Harold De Haan says this year's focus will try to solve some problem spots in residential areas.
WOODSTOCK -- The City of Woodstock has announced its proposed construction schedule for the Spring and Summer of 2014 and some main roads are being left out this time around.
City Engineer Harold de Haan spoke after Thursday night's meeting of City Council and says Juliana Drive will see one job in particular this Spring.
"The project that we're identifying for early June of this year is basically to get rid of the concrete pavement that is on Juliana Drive west of Norwich Ave to Bruin, it's in pretty rough shape."
The section of concrete was put in a few decades ago as a trial run of using concrete mix for pavement. As short as the stretch is, the trial section has not aged well, which as de Haan points out, the city has received a number of complaints about already from motorists.
While traffic loads have increased along the stretch over the years, de Haan says Juliana as a road is at capacity right now. However The Transport Ministry, County and City would have to come to a future agreement to do a land exchange to widen what's become a busy arterial in the City's south end.
Other streets getting work are Hughson between Huron and Winchester, which is slated to begin in mid-June. Springbank from Parkinson to Juliana is also being tapped for asphalt resurfacing in June.
Springbank won't escape 2014 without some work this Spring. The stretch from Parkinson to Juliana is in line for an asphalt resurfacing makeover.
Road reconstruction projects are scheduled for Hughson Street, Brant, Lyndale Crescent and Sixth Ave.
Fair Street, Nelson, Marlboro and Sydenham are all side streets which will be broken up for road construction, with some projects scheduled to last 9-11 weeks in duration.
