City council approved the motion during their recent council meeting, opting in on marijuana retail stores in the Friendly City.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock was given the green light on retail stores selling marijuana.
City council allowed the Friendly City to become one of the cities to sell cannabis during last night's council meeting.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says there are no stores in Woodstock right now, but there are other options to buy cannabis products.
"At present, the province is in control and all purchases right now are online. The results for the lottery of where the first batch of locations will go will be released soon, and we'll stay up to date on that issue as more develops."
Birtch adds the community played a role in making their decision, recognizing the economic benefits.
"Hearing from some of the local people here that recognize that with the change in the federal laws and how the province is rolling it out, that we would like to see money retained in our city rather than going outside of our city."
While some communities have voted against recreational marijuana, Woodstock and Zorra Township are among the cities who opted in for cannabis in Oxford County.
