OXFORD COUNTY - The 14th annual Realtors Care Food Drive was a huge success.
Over 180 members and volunteers with the Woodstock Ingersoll Tillsonburg and Area Association of Realtors collected 44,303 pounds of food earlier this month. This is $158,604.74 worth, according to Food Banks Canada’s current valuation.
Operation Sharing and the Ingersoll Salvation Army both received 18,000 pounds. The Helping Hand Food Bank in Tillsonburg walked away with 4,303 pounds and the remaining 4,000 went to Seniors in Food Crisis.
WITAAR President Cassandra Benard says the donations were collected in Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, Sweaburg, Embro, and Innerkip on May 7th.
"We definitely aren’t always this lucky with the weather, but this year’s pickup day was absolutely gorgeous! Rain or shine, our volunteers always show up, so it was nice to have a bit of sunshine to thank them for their unwavering support. I’m incredibly proud of our members and the way they continue to rally behind this event year after year, ensuring its remarkable and ongoing success. It’s a reminder to our community that local REALTORS® aren’t just real estate representatives—we’re friends, neighbours, and people who genuinely care about the communities we live and work in."
Benard would like to thank everyone who supported the food drive this year and in this years prior.
"The generosity we’ve seen is nothing short of incredible, and this collection is expected to keep local food bank shelves stocked well through summer and into the fall. It’s hard to believe this is our 15th REALTORS® Care Food Drive, minus the year we had to pause during COVID, and over the years, we estimate we’ve now collected more than 332,303 pounds of food for local families in need“ Our communities continue to show up in such meaningful ways, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of something that truly makes a difference."
