The early wreath laying will begin at 10:30am at the Victoria Park Cenotaph
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock's Remembrance Day ceremony will be taking place at the Victoria Park Cenotaph after all.
Organizers had planned to hold the ceremony at the Oxford Auditorium if the weather was bad with a forecast of sun and 13 degrees Tuesday, an outside service will be taking place.
Woodstock Poppy Chair Mike Prichard says the early wreath laying will start at 10:30am. "We always do that because there are so many wreaths to be laid out. The actual ceremony itself, the parade will start at roughly 10:45am, march to the cenotaph and then we go through the regular service at 11am and then we lay the veterans wreath." After the ceremony, the legion will be offering refreshments to anyone wishing to join them.
"This year being the 100th anniversary of World War 1 and plus the incident that have happened in Ottawa and Quebec, we expect a much larger crowd this year so it should be a very good turn out."
Woodstock Police Chief Rod Freeman has confirmed there were will be a large police presence but would not get into any other details.
Prichard says everyone needs to make time to honour of current and fallen soldiers.
"These people sacrificed their lives. We lost 177,000 -- there's 177,000 reasons why they should be there. For the freedom we have today, they need to show their respects and pay their compliments for them."
