Scouts Canada and Hydro One is putting on a free event inside Goff Hall today discussing topics like concussion prevention and how to identify signs of a concussion. It goes from 9:30 am to 1:00 p m.
WOODSTOCK - Scouts Canada and Hydro One have partnered up to talk to youth and families about concussion safety awareness.
They'll be hosting an event today, which will cover topics like concussion prevention and identifying the signs of a concussion.
Council Youth Commissioner and National Youth spokesperson for Scouts Canada, Jason Gingrich says both parties wanted to come together to bring more safety to the community.
"We're taking on head safety. Bring prevention, awareness about these injuries, what to look for, the signs, symptoms of concussions and educating people on the return to play protocol."
The event will launch Head Safe, which is an initiative that provides youth and families in Canada with resources and hands-on instructions to prevent, identify and respond to head injuries like concussions.
He says it will have a family-friendly atmosphere.
"So we've really turned this sorts of lessons into hands-on, fun, engaging activities where the youth can really internalize it and I think that's the really cool thing about these events is seeing the youth being able to take this knowledge into their own hands and being empowered to live and play safely both within scouting, but also outside of scouting."
A light lunch will be provided and those interested in attending can register online
The event is free and runs from 9:30 to 1:00 pm at Goff Hall.
