The Zonta Club of Woodstock will be raising awareness on violence against women over the next couple weeks in part of their Zonta Says No campaign.
WOODSTOCK - The Zonta Club of Woodstock will be partnering up with the Domestic Assault Review Team to launch "The Lighting of the Lights" campaign next week.
The initiative is in part of the Zonta Says No campaign, which spreads awareness on violence against women. Advocacy Chair Sheen Poole says the community's support has grown over the years.
"We feel that we are gaining exposure just by people who are recognizing the campaign and just with the involvement of others in the County."
Poole explains why they wanted to
"The goal for the campaign is to bring awareness to community members and people who are maybe associated with some of our at risk women and children and make sure they have they have the information they need, which is available through various resources in our County."
Manager of The Family Violence Counselling Program and current Domestic Assault Review Team chair Giselle Lutfallah says they are happy to team up with Zonta for this campaign.
“The Domestic Assault Review Team seeks to both end violence in relationships as well as to provide a coordinated, holistic and streamlined service experience to victims of intimate partner violence. Service partners from police services, social service agencies, criminal court and probation services strive to ensure our community is working together to end violence against women and children as well as to raise awareness about the impact that violence has on our community. We are joining together with Zonta to reinforce the importance of the 16 days of activism against gender violence.”
The lighting ceremony will happen at the Woodstock Police Services on November 26th, starting at 5:30pm. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence runs from November 25 to December 10th, 2018.
