Racing Against Drugs

Local kids are having fun while learning important messages about drugs, bullying and safety

They're Racing Against Drugs in Woodstock this week.

Elementary School groups from across the County have been visiting the Oxford Auditorium to get a crash course in substance abuse prevention.

Woodstock Police Constable Steve McEwen says there are 15 different interactive stations for the students to take part in.  "Talking about what some of the drugs are, and there's other groups talking about what it can do to you.  The OPP have one on alcohol alone.  The message is what this can do to you and we want young people to avoid using any of those substances."

There are other stations, including one being run by the Military Police from London on cyberbullying.  "It's new this year, and I think it's a really important message."

The highlight of the event is a race car simulator brought in by the RCMP.

The event is put on thanks to contributions from the Woodstock Rotary Club, the Woodstock Police and Police Association who contribute financially to the event.
