RIDE programs will be popping up across the region this fall and winter with the KISS and MADD campaigns.
WOODSTOCK - Expect to see plenty of RIDE programs popping up around Oxford County this fall and winter.
Woodstock Police and Oxford OPP are starting their fall KISS and MADD Ride Campaigns. Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says KISS stands for keep it safe and sober.
"KISS is also a message that we send to all sober drivers and they actually get Hershey's kisses that we give away to those that are complying and making good choices behind the wheel."
Officers will also be partnering with local MADD volunteers and OCIPT team members by conducting RIDE programs in Oxford County.
VanLeeuwen adds that impaired driving is still a huge problem in our society.
"In 2015 in Canada Police reported 72,039 impaired driving incidents. Almost 3,000 drug impaired incidents were reported. In spite of a decline in impaired driving rates over the past 30 years, impaired driving still remains one of the most frequent criminal offences and is among the leading criminal causes of death in Canada. While alcohol-impaired driving is down, drug impaired driving is on the rise."
The Ride programs will start on Friday and can happen anywhere and anytime.
