A public meeting will be taking place during the Oxford County Council meeting on May 8th.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council has approved the next steps for the Development Charges Background Study for 2024.
Deputy Warden Mark Peterson explains the purpose behind these charges.
"It's growth paying for growth. There are some things that are exempt from development charges, I think schools and places of worship, but it's a way of collecting money instead of putting it on a tax burden through the resident."
He adds these background studies need to happen every few years.
"I think the last one was done, I'm just guessing but I think 10 years ago. It's something we need to do and update all of the time so it reflects the growth. We've had such good growth in our area, so it's a good timing for it."
The next steps of the study include a public meeting on the matter, which will take place during the regular Oxford County Council meeting on Wednesday May 8th.
