Drivers who need to renew their licences may be able to avoid the line-ups -- as long as they don't need a photo and meet other criteria.
Ontario says it will be the first province to allow eligible people to renew their driver's licences online at the ServiceOntario website.
Drivers who renew online for a five-year cycle can continue to use their existing licence photos for another five years -- but will have to renew in person at least every 10 years in order to get a new photo.
Eligibility will be determined as users go through the online process and those who do not meet the criteria -- or who need to take tests or pay outstanding fines -- will be told to renew in person.
