Oxford County Public Health is celebrating Oral Health Month with visits to local high schools.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Public Health has kicked off their 4th annual Smile Campaign.
The campaign helps shine a light on the importance of maintaining good oral health practices. County dental staff will offer dental screenings at all of the high schools in Oxford throughout the month. They stopped by IDCI Friday morning.
Dental Hygienist Anita Grover says youth should take advantage of this free service while they can.
"When they turn 18 there is no longer any government assisted programs for youth in Oxford County who don't have dental insurance. We often will have a student who comes at their 18th or after their 18th birthday with problems in their mouth and we don't have any programs to help them."
Students who undergo a dental screening during their lunch hour will also be entered into a draw to win $250 in Visa prepaid cards or Beats headphones. Grover says teens could also take home other prizes if they show off their pearly whites in a selfie.
"If they take a picture with our Snapchat filter, share it to their friends and add Oxford_County then they're also entered in a draw for some Tims cards, iTunes cards, electric toothbrushes, stuff like that."
April is also known as Oral Health Month.
