Prowind Canada announces changes to their proposed Gunn's Hill windfarm proposal
Prowind Canada has announced changes to their Gunn's Hill Windfarm application in Norwich Township.
Vice President of Prowind Canada Juan Anderson says the renewable energy manufacturer will no longer be using a Tillsonburg made turbine from Siemens, but instead a model by Senvion manufactured in Welland.
"Siemen's supply capacity was fully subscribed for our timelines and that's a risk, that for a project of our size, we wouldn't get turbines so we had to look for an alternative."
Anderson says they will now be using Senvion blades made in Welland.
"Senvion has smaller and quieter turbines so they fit within the existing permitting work we have been doing and we are happy to reduce the sound levels. They are able to supply within our timing, they have the same Ontario content levels both the blades and towers and manufactured in Ontario and they are also willing to work with a project that has a community partner and that's important for us as well because of the work we are doing with the Oxford Energy Co-op."
Anderson says the capacity of the project is also decreasing.
"That's the result of the nature of the local grid in the area. Not too long ago we elected to drop our connection line that ran into the City of Woodstock into the Woodstock transmission station and as a result the available capacity dropped from 25 mega watts to 18 mega watts."
Anderson says the 10 proposed turbines and locations will remain unchanged.
The project is currently being reviewed by the Ministry of the Environment and Anderson says he hopes to hear back sometime in August.
