Hodges Pond has been reconnected to Cedar Creek.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - The Hodges Pond re-naturalization project is on the right track.
The dam has been opened up to Cedar Creek, which will improve the water quality in the area. It should also improve the flood reduction along the Thames River Watershed.
Phil Holst, the Director of Ducks Unlimited says more work still needs to be done.
"The program is to keep developing more wetlands, do stream rehabilitation, quite a variety of native trees species and shrubs planted, upgrade the pollinator ability of the area and hopefully develop at some point some public access to the area."
Holst says there's a lot of driving forces behind this project.
"There's a lot involved in doing this but what a great partner to have a landowner that's willing to take a bit of risk and do all of this work in partnership with all of us partners to actually make a huge improvement out here."
This is a partnership between Ducks Unlimited, Oxford County, Stewardship Oxford, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
The Cowan Foundation has provided $50,000 in funding to make this all possible.
