"[To me] it means diversity, equity and acceptance. It means no longer having to fight for our rights, it means there's more acceptance, and at the end of the day we won't have to deal with homophobia, biphobia and triphobia in Oxford County."
OXFORD COUNTY - Towns in Oxford kicked off Pride Month with Flag raising ceremonies across the County.
Flags started going up at 8:30 a.m., beginning with the County Building.
Heart FM caught up with Tami Murray, President of Oxford Pride, at the Ingersoll Flag Raising, where she told us what Pride in Oxford means to her.
"[To me] it means diversity, equity and acceptance. It means no longer having to fight for our rights, it means there's more acceptance, and at the end of the day we won't have to deal with homophobia, biphobia and triphobia in Oxford County."
She added that she was proud to see the community come out in full force this year.
"We've seen five times the amount of people we typically see at our flag raisings, and I think that's indicative of the challenges we have been facing in the community."
Oxford Pride is hosting a bunch of events in June to celebrate and promote Pride Month, including a Pride Family Night that they are extra excited to bring to the county.
