Hydro One workers in Beachville donate to Sakura House
The Hydro One crew out of Beachville is paying it forward this holiday season.
This week, the workers gathered for a cheque presentation to the VON Sakura House.
$1837 was raised by the workforce in their annual fundraising efforts through a regional staff breakfast, and by sending each other candy grams.
Customer Support Worker Andrea Desharnais tells Heart FM Sakura House has personally touched some of their workers. "We were just proud to support them. We've had lots of people have comment that they couldn't have had a better place for their family member's last days. It really made us happy to support something local."
Desharnais adds they can always use a little pick-me-up in their line of work. "A lot of the people here take a lot of flack from customers...it's just the nature of the business. So to have a good news story, and have people say 'thank you' is really nice."
The money will be used to support the day-to-day operation of Oxford's only residential hospice.
