Recent snowy weather hasn't had a major impact on County crews, budgets
Despite the bad weather for the past few weeks, the County's Road department seems to be in good shape as far as the budget goes.
Director of Public Works Rob Walton says the roads budget runs January to December so it's too early to say what kind of a strain this bought of winter will have on the 2014 roads budget.
"You wouldn't expect to be out continuously for the number of days which we have been recently so I'm not that concerned yet although if it does run into a stretch where you're out days and days and days in a row it starts to become concerning but we had the first stretch of this at the end of 2013 and I'm not worried that much about the budget for that."
Walton says drivers have maintained a safe distance from the plows allowing them to do their jobs.
While we have experienced more snow so far this year than in the same time period the last few years, Walton says he isn't worried about running out of supplies.
"I had a request yesterday to make sure that I approved a purchase order to order some more salt because we needed to get some in but we have fairly large facilities for that so we're not short although when you start running short you make sure you get it in."
Walton says even with plows running around the clock since December 21, they haven't run into any major staffing issues.
"We have 21 plow routes during the day so the hours of 7-3:30 and then in the afternoon we cut that down to 13 and we change the routes in the evening and night and on the weekends it's by call in so since we have those two shifts we have the ability to have more people available to us so that works out to our advantage when we do run many days in a row."
Walton says he will know shortly the final roads tally for 2013 but he doesn't think the storms at the end of December pushed the final total over budget.
