Renovations are complete and the community now has full use of the Plattsville Arena. The process hit a few speed bumps after construction began back in April of 2012. Mayor of the Township of Blandford-Blenheim Marion Wearn says with a project of this magnitude there are always things that come up. "It was an old facility, so when we opened up some of the walls we had a little Asbestos that delays the project. Then there were times where we couldn't get the materials on-time, so it just kind of slowed down the process," said Wearn, "We were able to open it so that the minor hockey and the figure skating didn't lose much time. That was the main goal, so they used it without the rest of the facility being ready." Around $4-million was spent on the addition. Manager of Community Services Ken Wood says most of the public agrees it was worth the wait. "The biggest highlight is the dressing rooms use to be upstairs and now they're on the ground floor. So that's the biggest change. We now have a Community Hall which we didn't have before. 120 people can fit in there and of course it's wheelchair accessible. Two change rooms for the referees. We have a much bigger lobby than we use to have," said Wood, "It gives us an opportunity to have a higher standard than what the older facility allowed us to have. That goes a long way to bring pride into a community and that's where this fits." Click here to watch a tour of the addition.
