WOODSTOCK - It's Fire Prevention week and the Woodstock Fire Department will be out and about at a number of events this year.
The theme this year is that not every hero wears a cape, plan and practice your escape. Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods explains what that means.
"So our focus is making sure that once the alarm goes off in the house, whether it be a smoke or a carbon monoxide alarm goes off, that you have a plan to get and everybody knows where they are supposed to meet outside."
Woods says the fire prevention team will spending a lot of time promoting this message in the Friendly City this week.
"You will be seeing our trucks just about everywhere this week with our fire prevention team, to just enforce the message that you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, as well as making sure you have that plan to escape with everyone in the home. We will be at the grocery stores, the beer store, LCBO, we will be at McDonald's, we are going to be out at Toyota, catching the Toyota employee's on their lunch hour and educating them as well."
They are also bringing back the popular pizza delivery program this week, where they will buy your pizza if you have working smoke alarms or C02 detectors. Woods says you always contact the Fire Department for more information on Fire safety.
"You can give me a call at 519-537-3412 and my extension is 5203 and we will come to make sure that your alarms are in the right place, that they are up to date and working and we will help or we will provide access to help to make sure that you are safe."
