The Merchants are now tied with the Firebirds for first place in the Doherty Division standings.
PJHL - It was a winning weekend for the Woodstock Navy Vets and the Norwich Merchants in local Junior C hockey action.
The Merchants crushed the Hespeler Shamrocks 6-1 on Friday and went on to beat the Dorchester Dolphins 4-3 on Saturday.
The Woodstock Navy Vets only had one game this weekend They celebrated a 5-3 victory over the Tavistock Braves. Rhylan Warford scored twice for the Vets and over 500 fans walked way home with a free pizza coupon from Dominos Pizza for Fan Appreciation Night.
The Braves also fell to the Wellesley Applejacks 5-1 on Saturday.
The Merchants are currently tied with the New Hamburg Firebirds for first place in the Doherty Division standings with 62 points each. They're followed by the Navy Vets with 57 points, the Applejacks with 46 points, and the Dolphins with 39 points. The Paris Titans are in fifth place with 30 points, the Braves are in sixth place with 24 points, and the Shamrocks are in last place with 18 points.
Over in the Yeck Division, the Thamesford Trojans beat the Aylmer Spitfires 5-3 on Friday but fell to the North Middlesex Stars 6-2 on Saturday.
The Trojans are in sixth place in the Yeck Division standings with 43 points. They're behind the Stars with 47 points, the Port Stanley Sailors with 52 points, the Mount Brydges Bulldogs with 53 points, the Exeter Hawks with 54 points, and the Petrolia Flyers with 55 points.
