Brian Petrie hopes to give Ingersoll Town Council a try
INGERSOLL - A passion for municipal politics is one reason Brian Petrie is running for Ingersoll Town Council.
Petrie is a self professed 'council junkie'.
"I want to keep Ingersoll affordable. I want to focus the town's priorities toward the everyday services that we rely on and I want to really drive community participation and cooperation to provide those services that we really enjoy. I really want to kick start some affordable seniors housing, I think that's something we can do a lot better on."
"I think I've taken the initiative to get the education and the knowledge that it takes to be a competent councillor and an effective one as well. I've really put the time in the community and at council meetings of all types, or in the classroom for that matter, to really understand the issues that effect everybody."
Petrie says he already attends all of the meetings.
"One of the biggest issues is affordability, whether that be through taxes or housing. Of course the landfill is a major issue in the next four years because that's going to end up one way or another. Most people agree that it shouldn't happen. There's going to be some big decisions that way. The other big one is the financial security of the town. There's a lot of bills coming due so that's going to be a big issue as well I think."
Petrie is Chair of the Ingersoll Sports Hall of Fame and an avid volunteer in the community.
Before the end of the week he says he will have a campaign website up and running.
