PERTH COUNTY - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police were monitoring the roads and traffic across the province over the Canada Day long weekend.

As a result, Perth County OPP laid numerous driving charges, including 82 for speeding, three for stunt driving, two for seat belts, one for distracted driving and 14 for other Highway Traffic Acts offences.
One impaired driver was charged and five drivers were charged for insurance act offences. Perth County OPP also laid 18 charges related to hazardous moving violations.
Perth County OPP, Sgt. Scott Bentley says these incidents were a main focus over the holiday weekend.
"The most common causes of deaths on Ontario roads are impaired driving, failure or improper use of seat belts, distracted driving and aggressive driving. During the weekend blitz, officers focused particular attention to those breaking traffic laws related to the big four."
