An afternoon of fun and exercise will be taking place in Southside Park starting at 1pm tomorrow
Break out your capes - it's time for the Parkinson Superwalk!
Coordinator of Special Events Steve Hickson says the event at the South Gate Centre is one part of a much larger movement. "It's actually a national event there's Parkinson Superwalks across the country. Last weekend we have 10 events take place across Southwestern Ontario. And it's an opportunity to come out and get some exercise and be around other people with Parkinsons and their family and friends and caregivers, and raise some money, and just have a really great time."
Hickson says the event is all inclusive - whether you want to go for a nice long walk with your family, or a short stroll with friends they are able to accommodate you. "There's a short one and a long one. The shorter walk stays within Southside Park, the longer walk which is just about 1km goes around the outskirts of the park along Parkinson Ave. But yeah, it's about a kilometre."
It's not too late to get involved. Hickson says they will still be taking registrants on the day of. "The registration starts at 1 p.m. and the walk itself starts around 2. But of course it is a fundraiser so if you haven't heard about the event, but you still want to go, we'd appreciate a donation when you arrive. You can register at Superwalk.ca and then send out emails and raise money that way."
The Parkinson Walk takes over Southside park at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
