The Paris Town Hall Bell may be finding itself back at the Bawcutt Centre
PARIS - The Paris Old Town Bell is a proud historical monument that may be returning to its rightful place at the Bawcutt Centre, formerly known as the Paris Old Town Hall.
The bell was built in 1874 and was hanged on the Old Town Hall but due to safety reasons it had to be taken down and relocated downtown in 1950, to the corner of Grand River Street South and Dumfries Street. It was then relocated to downtown in 2002 where it currently remains.
Member of advisory community for the Bawcutt centre, Kari Raymer Bishop on how the bell used to be a centre piece for the town.
"This bell rang out in emergencies in celebrations! It was pretty central for a long time until change came and it ended up eventually being set up on display in the municipal town parking lot downtown."
Raymer Bishop on how the bell is a symbol to cherish that's different from other towns.
"Over time with progress Paris has lost some of the really special things about Paris and I think there is a thinking that we need to rescue, return and reclaim some of those things that make Paris our beautiful little town."
It's unknown whether or not the the bell will be returning to its place of origin but historians are hoping that it will be.
