Palmer to Become Mayor of Norwich Township

Jim Palmer has been the Ward 3 Councillor for Norwich Township for seven years, and he's going to become the Mayor on November 15th.

NORWICH TOWNSHIP - The Ward 3 Councillor in Norwich Township is about to become the Mayor.

Jim Palmer will be sworn in as the Mayor on November 15, joining incumbent Ward 1 Councillor John Scholten, as well as three new faces in the other three wards. Alisha Stubbs was elected in Ward 2, Shawn Gear will succeed Palmer as the new Ward 3 Councillor, and Adrian Couwenberg earned the most votes in Ward 4. 

Norwich's Mayor-elect was thankful for all the people who voted for and supported him, but he also has some new responsibilities to get used to. Palmer shared what his first course of action will be as Mayor.

"We have to things like committees settled away. That was one of the problems we had this past term, one committee went rogue. So we have to make sure we get everybody in a committee they would like to be on if possible."

He also told us what his initial reaction to the election results was.

"I was really surprised when I saw the election results come in. I guess it shows just how much the Township of Norwich has really changed during the COVID times. During the campaign, I knocked on a lot of doors and met a lot of people that I had no idea lived in our villages of Norwich, Otterville or Springford."

Palmer said he was also looking forward to getting sworn into County Council on November 23 and working with all the new faces that will be there, with a total of five new Mayors across the County as well as a new Woodstock City-County Councillor.

It's been a whirlwind for Norwich Township's next Mayor, but he's excited for the next four years.
