Elgin OPP have arrested two people after a rash of break and enters across the region, while family and friends were attending funerals.
ELGIN COUNTY - Elgin County OPP have arrested two people who have allegedly been breaking into homes while the occupants are attending funerals.
The pair are accused of breaking into several homes across Southwestern Ontario from Stratford to Strathroy. Apparently they would keep on eye on obituaries for funeral dates and then target grieving family members and friends.
45 year old Krystle Oag of Dutton Dunwich was arrested on Thursday and is facing the following charges:
- Break and enter
- Possess break in instruments
- Obstruct peace officer
- Removing vehicle identification number
- Assault peace officer (two counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime (16 counts)
- Possession of a firearm obtained by crime (18 counts)
- Careless storage of a firearm obtained by crime (four counts)
- Possession of a prohibited device (three counts)
55 year old Ian Scott, of Dutton-Dunwich was arrested and is facing the following charges:
- Possession of property obtained by crime (16 counts)
- Possession of a firearm obtained by crime (18 counts)
- Careless storage of a firearm obtained by crime (four counts)
- Possession of a prohibited device (three counts)
- Removing vehicle identification number
In September, police issued a warning about the rash of break and enters in the region, while loved ones were attending funerals. Elgin County OPP seized several stolen items during the arrest as well.
