PA Day Event Goes Back In Time

Kids in Woodstock will be off school later this month (January 24th) and the Old School Tools P-A Day will be happening at the Woodstock Museum.

WOODSTOCK - A PA Day is set for later this month and the Woodstock Museum has an event available for children who will be off school.

Their Old School Tools PA Day will give kids ages 5-12 to learn about fun low-tech tools from the past, along with fun games.

Education Officer Kerrie Gill says the event should be a lot of fun for them.

"Most of our PA days involve everything from games and crafts and sometimes out trips depending on the theme of the PA day. For our old school tools we'll be looking at mostly non-electric tools, even hand drills and mixers, things that are still fun to test it how they work and using technology. So there's lots of experimental things that we get to do at the museum."

She adds they really like to incorporate hands-on programming, especially for kids and adults. 

They'll be learning about a mix of low technology tools just before electricity was invented, doing activities like churning their own butter and grinding coffee beans.

Gill says it's always fun to incorporate these new activities to stimulate old ideas and new ideas.

"When they get to do these hands-on things like peeling apples with a special apple peeler and core grinding coffee to take home, lots of times these tools are not familiar to them so they need to test them out and try them. So it's like a new experience for them and because they're inquisitive and want to know more it's a wonderful opportunity for those kids to get right in there and have these hands-on experiences."

There is a $40.00 fee for the day and tickets cost $30.00 for members. Gill says you can sign up online or you can call the Woodstock Museum at 519-537-8411 ext. 2901.

It's on January 24th and runs from 8:30 to 4:30 pm.
