Oxford Walk's for Memories

The Alzheimer Society of Oxford is in the midst of their biggest fundraiser. Executive Director Shelley Green says the Walk for Memories takes place in three locations across the county. "Woodstock we're in our 19th year, Tillsonburg in our 18th, and Ingersoll our 15th year. Last year we raised just over $107,000 and we're hoping to do more than that again this year. We've had great community support throughout the years and we're counting on that again this year," said Green. Yesterday, Tillsonburg had a great turnout to their walk. Today Ingersoll hosts the walk from 2-3:30pm at the CAW Hall and next Saturday is the walk in Woodstock from 2-4pm at the Oxford Auditorium. Nikko Papadakos has been coming to the Tillsonburg walk for nine years now. After losing two family members to Alzheimer's, she comes to the event to remember and support the cause for future cases. "It's a horrendous disease to watch somebody go through, and it really does affect the whole family," said Papadakos, "The Alzheimer Society provides a lot of support not only to those suffering or dealing with the disease, but also to the families including grandkids and caregivers. It's wonderful what they do." The organization hopes to raise $112,000 this year. Every dollar stays in Oxford County.
