Several museums and heritage sites across Oxford County are teaming up to honour Canada's contribution in World War One.
To mark the 100 anniversary of WWI, Tillsonburg, Ingersoll, Woodstock, and Princeton museums are playing host to exhibitions and events until 2018.
Over 100 events have been scheduled to take place between 2014 - 2018 and they incorporate different organizations, heritage sites, and points of interest. The effort is called Oxford Remembers: Oxford's Own and heavily features the county's participation in the war effort, from the trenches all the way back to the home front.
Manager of Culture for the City of Woodstock, Karen Houston says as the anniversaries of specific events (such as The Second Battle of Ypres or Vimy Ridge) start to pass, more and more people become aware of the events being put on. "As the dates continue, it's going to be more and more, leading up to Passchendaele and major battles Canada was in. And it really defined our international reputation. The budget that just came out was highlighting that it's the 100th anniversary of these things and we're coming up to the 150th anniversary of Canada, and slowly people are becoming aware of all these anniversaries."
Currently the Woodstock museum is hosting an exhibition called 'Reaction and Recruitment: Oxford Goes to War.'
Coming up on May 1st, the Oxford Winds Community Concert Band will be at Knox Presbyterian Church playing music celebrating beloved heroes in war, film and music. Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 in advance.
