OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is currently taking a look at the bag tag requirement for garbage pickup during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Several people have complained about having to pay for bag tags at a time when many aren't working. The County has not made any official decisions at this time, however they did release this statement, indicating the discussions are happening:
"Oxford County acknowledges that people have questions and concerns about our continued requirement for waste bag tags. Based on this feedback, we are reviewing the ongoing requirement for bag tags.
Bag tags are available where many shop for food, gasoline and convenience items and can be purchased on those outings. We recognize some residents who are in self-isolation may not have such access; for those specific residents, we ask you please contact us directly at 519-539-9800 or 1-800-755-0394, or by email at customerservice@oxfordcounty.ca, to arrange to have your bag tag purchased remotely.
It must be considered that bag tag fees represent approximately $ $270,000/month of County revenue that must ultimately be recovered through municipal taxes. As we review our municipal operations and services during the COVID-19 outbreak, we will continue to review our requirement for bag tags."
We will provide you with more information as soon as it becomes available.
