Oxford County Continues to Grow

According to the latest census data, Oxford County's population grew by 9.9 percent from 2016 to well over 121,000 people.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County had tremendous growth over the past five years.

According to the 2021 census data, the County's population grew by 9.9 percent from 110,846 in 2016 to 121,781 in 2021. Warden Larry Martin says most area municipalities experienced substantial growth over that time. 

"The census report showed we are among some of the fastest growing municipalities in Southwestern Ontario."

He says this means they will have more money coming into the County, but they will also have to provide more services.

"There is one of two things that can happen, it can lower what you pay in taxes because there is increased growth, however because of the increased growth, there is a greater demand for the services that are provided, so you are able to provide those services for more people and maybe improve them somewhat at little or no cost to the municipality."

The three main centres had the biggest growth. The City of Woodstock has had a 13.6 percent population growth since 2016. It shows the 2021 population of Woodstock at 46,705. In 2016 that number was 41,098. 

Ingersoll had a 7.3 percent increase. The population in 2021 in the Town of Ingersoll is 13,963, compared to 12,756 in 2016. 

Tillsonburg had the largest growth percentage wise at 17.3 percent. They have a population of 18,615. According to the latest data and the population was only 15,872 in 2016.
