Oxford County residents can have their say when it comes to Oxford County's 2017 budget.
Oxford County Council is getting ready to go over the budget for 2017.
The first budget meeting is happening on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the County Administration building in Woodstock. Staff have proposed a budget with a base levy increase of 2.7%, with the total proposed levy increase at 4.6% over 2016, however those numbers will likely change. Warden David Mayberry tells Heart FM budget deliberations are a time to look at what we actually need to get done in the next year.
"So what are the services by legislation that we have to provide and what services are required by the people and what does it cost to provide those services and then the other part, of course, is the upkeep of the facilities and infrastructure that we already have."
The proposed budget includes a $73.8 million capital plan, a 4.0% increase over 2016. For Oxford County Library, the proposed levy is $3.6 million, a 2.7% increase over 2016.
This year, Oxford County residents can complete an online survey to share what they think Oxford County's business planning and financial priorities should be for 2017. You can find the survey online here.
